Shiv Kumar aged 40 years is a resident of Karsanda village, Gosanganj block in Lucknow district of Uttar Pradesh state in India. Since his childhood he had a dream to take up job. However, he had to discontinuehis studies after intermediate. He underwent ITI training with a hope of getting good technical job in the nearby city like Lucknow or elsewhere. However hard he tried, unfortunately he could not get any job. Shiv Kumar owns1.5 hectares of agricultural land and hence continued farming that became the major source of income for his family of nine.

NavjyotiKisan Producer Company Ltd (NKPCL), was incorporated in 2014 with the guidance and support of BASIX. Shiv Kumar is the shareholder and Chairman of NKPCL that has 1060 farmer members. While Shivkumar is well known among the board of directors and shareholders of NKPCL, he is more famous for his skills and sincerity in maintaining books of accounts and his active participation in various strategic decisions of the Company. While initially none of the farmer members came forward to take up the responsibility, he volunteered to take up the task for the Company.

Over the years, the company grew and achieved turnover of Rs.1.36 Cr. With the growthof NKPCL and with guidance and support from BASIX, Shiv Kumar learnt many skills in book keeping subject, especially maintaining various records such as cashbook, ledger, sale& purchase register, stock register etc. He also learnt accounting software ‘TALLY’ and is able to read financial statements. Today he is conversant in reviewing the business achievements of NKPCL against the business plan and also is able to plan for future.

Shiv Kumar also supports other FPOs in the nearby villages who remunerate his services. Shiv Kumar is happy that he is able to have an income generating job in addition to farm income which has been his dream and has helped in additional sources of income for his family.
